In selecting a Mediator, what qualifications should you look for? In Florida, qualified Mediators are certified by the Florida Supreme Court as Mediators. Most common backgrounds for Mediators are; law, business, accounting, and mental health. Consider the impact of a separation both personally and financially, and select an individual, or team with solid qualifications. We have successfully mediated hundreds of cases, and those involving the end of relationships are as much about emotional process and closure as dollars and cents. Keep in mind that a Mediator can not give legal advice in the course of the mediation, even if that Mediator is a lawyer. How long will the mediation take? The process varies by the couple and the skill and style of the Mediator. However, three to six hours of mediation, in most cases, will produce an agreement. How much will it cost, and who pays? Mediators may charge between $150-$450 per hour. Payment is made in advance, or at the mediation conference, and is usually split by the individuals in conflict.
